Preliminary Task - Self Evaluation

Evaluation:

When completing our preliminary task I feel a that the group I was put into work collaboratively, we were able to work together easily without any arguments or disagreements because we all got assigned specific roles during the planning and filming. In the planning the roles were Script Writer, Shot Writer and storyboard makers. When filming took place we made the roles of Camera work/Director , utility, character 1 and character 2. By being able to work collaboratively this enabled us to work productively to ensure all of our work was to the best of our abilities at this stage in our film making development.
We also created a smooth running match-on-action scene where Seb walks through the door, we found this hard to do because of the differences in leg and positions changing whilst we took multiple shots to ensure that we got the best footage possible. However in he end the product that I produced by editing the film together shows clear match-on-action that flows.
We created a detailed plan that enabled us to specify the details in camera shots and angles and how we should all be positioned for the shot, this worked well for us as it allowed us to easily film our scenes that were smooth running. We also together
decided on a theme for the script that enabled us to understand what the characters were going to say and how the camera would be positions in line with the characters movements and actions.

We did come across a few  issues when filming our preliminary task, one issue was our time keeping skills because instead of filming all of our shots in one our lesson it took us one hour lesson and half of another lesson. I think the time keeping when filming our preliminary task went wrong because we were so concentrated on filming multiple shots so they we have many opportunities to get the perfect shot. Next time I am filming for my task in a group I think that we should set specific time frames so that we are able to keep within the time allocated by our teacher, this would then allow us to use the time wisely to balance out the time for filming and the time for editing. Also when filming the preliminary task I think that each of us being given a specific job, I think that we should all have a equal responsibility and chance to complete more than one role. I think this because it would allow us to all develop in different aspects of film making that is required for our coursework tasks. I also think that some of the shots that were not very smooth running and that when we were filming tacking and pan shots that they were shaky. I think that this went badly because of the equipment that we used because we don't have filming tracks at school this creates a shaky image, however we decided to use a chair that has wheels on the bottom to try and recreate the feeling of using filming tracks.

To improve my skills for the main piece of course work is my confidence to play one of the key characters in the scenes to be able to participate more. I think that also for my coursework I should create a set time frame for the filming of the individual shots and make sure that we have lots of multiple shots to make sure we are able to get the best product at the end. I would also like to practice my camera shots and knowledge of different angles so that I am able to show a variation of different skills and that they are of a better quality to make my work look more professional and run smoothly, not breaking any of the rules (180 degree rule) and also follow different theories. In the production process I would like to ensure that there are equal opportunities so that everyone is able to practise their techniques and skills for future development within the subject.
